I seems to remember the sprites were all limited to 256 colors. Capcom -styled Hyper backgrounds, and the commands for both Super Hammer and Invincible Star have been. Brawl, as well as Mario's costume swaps from said game as the first six palettes, though it also features Marvel vs. ![]() For example, below is a HD sprite from a game I'm working on. I remember my goal at the time was to make Mario into a surprisingly tough character. I would have loved to make him have electrical attacks and use his Poltergust 5000 in some interesting way, but I had no programmers, and no free time to create the sprites. Oh, and Mario's flame column was just a weird idea I had about if the Flame Power within him erupted out due to rage overtaking him (which tied into his nightmare-induced ending story a bit.) When you have already selected a level before and finished the match with an opponent, the portrait will always remain the one you put before even if you change levels. For example, if you put the 4th palette, it will be put on the 6th palette right away. and will automatically be put at the closest level.
